Egg Plant and Okra

I have only been here three full days but so much has happened the events of those days are mooshing together! My first day (Thursday) we didn’t start work till 9:15ish, this was nice because it gave me extra time to just chill. Every morning we start the day off with a meeting to go over what we will do for the day. I had to do an orientation which was just a tour of the grounds and learning protocol stuff, kind of boring but necessary. Then I got to work in the garden pulling out weeds with the rest of the group. Seriously I love weeding, there is just something so wonderful about being on the ground with your hands in the dirt, and it’s like the best kind of meditation. The other wwoofers and I worked together on pulling out the weeds which made it so much more fun. It’s so wonderful to connect with other people while doing work like this, in such a beautiful nurturing place. After weeding and lunch each wwoofer goes into their own garden to take care of. I was assigned to Grace garden, which is currently Steve’s, I only hope to do as good of job as he has! There are 4 gardens, I think, Aloha, Grace, Ohana, and I totally forget the fourth. All Steve and I did was harvest okra, and eggplant, and then we were done with our day.

I’m not quite sure how to explain the amount of dirt that is on your cloths and body after a 6hr work day, so I wont even try, but oh my god a shower has never felt so good. Even after my shower which consisted of a major scrub down I had dirt embedded in my knees. After I got relatively clean, I went to the salt water pool for a nice swim. The pool is beautiful; it is surrounded by trees, and the water is super warm. After a day of work it feels so good to move my body in the water. When I was walking back to my room I ran into Wesley and he suggested we hike down to the waterfall, so we did. It’s like a 5 min “hike”, more like a walk but whatever. The waterfall isn’t flowing right now; it’s more like a “water trickle”. There is a pool at the top of it that we can swim in, but I guess it’s not a great idea because bacteria like to gather and congregate there. When you get to the waterfall you are at the top and since its not flowing, we sat on the top, after I fell in :p. The view in amazing, you are looking over this HUGE beautiful gully and you can see the ocean. I don’t know how big the water trickle is but you are super high above the gully. We sat there talking for a while, it was really nice. I kind of forget about the rest of the night, all I know is that it involved friends, food, and laughter. Best first day ever, I’m going to go shower, PEACE.
